The steps for the installation of a pool enclosure
Installing a pool enclosure has many advantages. Available in many different forms, it can both protect the pool and secure it. It also provides greater comfort of use: the water temperature is preserved, swimming is possible despite the weather and the time required for cleaning is reduced. Discover the steps necessary to install an enclosure over your pool and everything you need to know before your purchase.
The 8 steps to install a pool enclosure
The installation of a pool enclosure takes place in several steps. This task requires at least two persons to be carried out correctly and safely.
Step 1 – Prepare all the components
Before beginning to assemble your enclosure, make sure you already have all the tools necessary. Place each component delivered in the kit (arches, screws, glazing, rails, etc.) on a flat surface and conduct an inventory. Keep the notice close at hand and read it well before you start.
Step 2 – Assemble the frame
Once your equipment is ready and close at hand, follow the instructions in the notice to assemble the structure of your enclosure. Assemble the various arches that comprise the frame using the corresponding screws provided with the kit.
Step 3 – Lay the rails
In parallel to the assembly of the frame, also install the track rails on the ground, if your model includes them.
Step 4 – Add the glazing
When you have finished assembling the frame, you can complete it with the glass, polycarbonate, plexiglas, PVC or resin glazing. Remove the protective film before sliding the panes into the profiles provided for this purpose.
Step 5 – Place the enclosure over the pool
Once the enclosure is entirely assembled, it is time to place it over the pool. It is for this step in particular that it is useful to have at least two people available in order to move the structure more easily.
Step 6 – Install the sliding modules
When the enclosure is finally installed over the pool, add the sliding modules and adjust them.
Step 7 – Install the motor
This step only concerns you if your enclosure is motorised. You should then install the motor and make all the connections. This installation requires specific knowledge and is subject to strict standards. For a motorised enclosure, it is therefore recommended to call on the services of a professional.
Step 8 – Fix the enclosure to the ground
To ensure that the enclosure stays in place despite bad weather, it is important to finish the assembly by anchoring it to the ground. Create anchor points by drilling holes in the ground and inserting metal expansion plugs to secure the enclosure in place. It is also possible to use thumbwheels or cable ties. Once the enclosure is anchored, install the rollers for the sliding opening.
Which pool enclosure to choose?
Before launching yourself into the installation of your pool enclosure, you must answer the question of what type of enclosure to install. What is the best solution?
The different models of pool enclosures
There are many models of pool enclosures available to meet all types of needs and configurations. Some can even be made to measure.
You will find four types of enclosure on the market:
– Flat pool enclosures: these can be fixed, removable, motorised, equipped with a handling pole or stackable. They are very discreet and effectively protect the pool. They can be removed or lifted to uncover the pool.
– Low-profile enclosures: sliding, telescopic or removable, they offer the possibility to uncover the pool or to keep it covered to swim under shelter.
– Mid-height pool enclosures: they offer the comfort of height while remaining sufficiently low to avoid the need of specific authorisation for installation.
– Full-height pool enclosures: they enable the creation of an area for relaxation around your pool. Wood, aluminium, curved or angular... numerous configurations are possible.
Pool enclosure opening systems are generally sliding or removable. In all cases, a rail system ensures greater ease of use. Motorised opening also simplifies handling by requiring less effort.
The elements to consider to make the right choice
To choose the pool enclosure that best suits your needs and situation, you can define the criteria for each of these elements:
– The available surface area;
– The required level of safety;
– The environment;
– The difficulty of installation;
– Maintenance;
– Handling;
– Budget.
You will thus have a guideline to help you choose the height of the structure, the materials and the type of opening that is suitable for your project.
Should you use the services of a professional for the installation of a pool enclosure?
It is quite possible to assemble a pool enclosure yourself, but the task may be more or less complex depending on the model chosen, and thus require the expertise of a professional.
The type of enclosure that you wish to add to your pool will determine whether you can do it yourself. A simple, non-motorised enclosure can be assembled by a person with good DIY skills. However, if you wish to install a rather large (mid- or full-height) or motorised enclosure, it is recommended to hire a professional to install it. Of course, very simple pool enclosures, including inflatable enclosures, can be installed alone.
The installation of a pool enclosure by a professional also brings you a certain peace of mind. You will be assured that your enclosure is well installed and complies with all current safety standards. You will also benefit from an additional warranty for the installation.
Pool enclosures: be careful to respect town planning regulations!
Whether you decide to install your pool enclosure yourself or hire a professional, you will in all cases have to ensure its compliance with all the regulations applicable in your municipality.
Indeed, as pool enclosures are sometimes quite large, they may be subject to town planning regulations, notably concerning the colour, materials or size. You can obtain information from your town hall and property managing agent to find out which rules apply to your project. If you are situated on a listed or protected site, the regulations may be more stringent.
A priori, you will not need a building permit, nor will you have to declare the works for the installation of your enclosure, unless it measures over 1 m 80 in height. If the enclosure is installed simultaneously with the construction of the pool, you will have to include it in the prior declaration of works.
Installing a pool enclosure can be a more or less complex task depending on the model you choose. Fortunately, you do not necessarily have to do it alone, you can hire a professional for carefree installation. Abrisud provides you with support from the choice of the most suitable model for you to the installation of the enclosure at your home.
