How does the motorization of a pool enclosure work?

One of two motors are installed close to the pool, protected from the weather and from the pool water. They can run wired, connected to your electrical installation, or be solar powered. These motors are triggered by remote control, which means you can open and close your enclosure remotely. Mathieu Joulé-Charpentier, Abrisud Sales Director, emphasizes that the models on the market today can be "discreet and silent, and may be placed in any corner of the enclosure, as such ensuring maximum convenience and style." He also offers "to install a motor with a manual disengageable function for existing enclosures, so they can be opened easily, even when there's a power or motor outage."

Which type of pool enclosure can be motorized

You can install a new enclosure that's already motorized directly or add motorization to an enclosure that's already installed around your pool. Virtually all full-height and medium-height pool enclosure models, whether they're of standard size or made to measure, can be equipped, as long as they're not fixed enclosures. Retractable or sliding enclosures, with or without guide-rails and runners, can be motorized easily, which means their foldable and stackable modules can be moved quickly and effortlessly. The same applies to pool enclosures with sliding sides or partially-sliding sides. Low and flat pool enclosures that cover the pool directly above the water surface can also be motorized, as can lift-up, open-up models, so their panels can be opened automatically in just a few seconds, without help.

Characteristics to take into account for choosing the right motorization for your pool enclosure

Enclosure weight and size

Motor power also depends on the weight of the modules and/or the sides and glazing. A small model of a motor is enough to move a few hundred kilos, for light material like polycarbonate honeycomb sheet, plexiglas and aluminium structures. However, you'll need extremely powerful motors if the weight is over 1,000 kg, if the structure is made of wood and the glazing is laminated glass or double-glazing for example.

The number of movable parts

The motorization kit also depends on the number of movable parts that will need to slide when triggered by the remote control.

Rolling surface

The rolling surface, with or without guide-rails, will also have an impact on motor choice, to ensure you have enough power for moving the modules, etc. to open and close your pool enclosure.

Enclosure colour

Colour can also be taken into account when choosing a motor to ensure, for example, that the motor remains discreet and doesn't affect the design of your pool enclosure.

Your budget

Motorizing a pool enclosure costs money and can be expensive. Prices vary based on the size of your enclosure and pool, as well as the power required to move the modules and panels. To get an idea of prices and the budget you'll need, the best thing to do is to request a free quote.

Which standards are used for pool enclosure motorization?

To ensure your pool and those bathing in it are well protected, you should have your motors installed by professionals who manufacture pool enclosures. A motorized enclosure that complies with the NF P-90-309 standard is a particularly-effective safety system used to prevent drowning in in-ground pools. It limits access to the pool and pool water and means you can rest assured that your safety system is designed to protect children, so you can make the most of your pool with total peace of mind.
